Kathryn Pride Hemery
Senior Relationship Manager
For me, one of the best parts about working at EMBREE FINANCIAL was learning early in my career the importance of saving for retirement. Sharing this knowledge with plan sponsors, participants, and prospects is now a highlight of my job as I know I’m helping shape the financial future of so many others.
I was raised in central Pennsylvania before attending college north of Pittsburgh. After college I gradually made my way west — spending a few years in Ann Arbor before settling in Chicago. Though Chicago is still my home base, I split my time between here and the United Kingdom where my husband lives and works in London. In my free time I can be found relaxing in Northern Michigan, hiking in Snowdonia, or snorkeling in Barbados.
Areas of expertise
Fiduciary Plan Reviews
An important part of reviewing a 401(k) plan is discussing the plan’s overall health and employee wellness.
Plan Conversions
If a plan sponsor decides to change the Recordkeeper, I help guide them through the process to ensure a smooth transition.
Building Relationships
A critical part of my role is being a trusted partner of the plan sponsor and employees. I feel candid conversations and collaboration are essential to building successful plans.
End of Quarter
The investment lineup is a significant part of any 401(k) plan. I make updates and distribute investment performance on a quarterly basis to plan sponsors and participants to keep them informed and educated.
Questions I often hear:
Can I please get a copy of the meeting minutes for our auditors?
Of course. Following every plan review Embree writes and distributes copies of the meeting minutes to the investment committee. Meeting minutes play an important role in a 401(k) plan. They ensure that the plan is being monitored and run appropriately, and all audited plans should have them.
What is an unbundled 401(k) plan?
401(k) plans can be bundled or unbundled. An unbundled 401(k) plan consists of a Recordkeeper/Custodian, a Third Party Administrator (TPA), and an Investment Advisor. Helping Plan Sponsors determine if their plan should be bundled or unbundled is a value-added service Embree offers.
